Here at St James C of E Infant and Nursery School we use a variety of methods and schemes to teach children and help them progress. In September 2016 we introduced a new Phonics and Reading Scheme into the school called Read Write Inc. Read Write Inc. is a whole school programme with children being grouped across the school and all taught Literacy at the same time each day. Further information about the programme can be found in the Parent resources section on the drop down tabs above.
For those children who need a little extra help from time to time, we offer a variety of intervention schemes such as Red Box literacy, Yellow Box maths and 1 to 1 Read Write Inc. catch up programmes. Each of these schemes are tailored to the needs of the individual child. These are all aimed at giving a little extra help in addition to the quality teaching we offer. Our Senior Teaching Assistants are highly trained in these schemes and with this small group and withdrawal work, we find that children find these schemes enjoyable and confidence building.
Ofsted now require schools to show that Spiritual, Social, Moral and Cultural teachings include the presence of British values such as tolerance, understanding of others, democracy, respect and acceptance of the rule of law and individual liberty.
Here at St James C of E Infant and Nursery School we ensure that our curriculum is appropriately broad and balanced to help prepare our young people for life in modern Britain by actively promoting fundamental British values.
